Luang Prabang: Gem of Indochina
The old capital of Luang Prabang remains the cultural heart of Laos and is the most visited destination of the country. Rising at dawn to watch the procession of orange clad monks receiving alms from the local people is still one Asia's most memorable and quintessential travel experiences and the mosaic-covered and gilded temples of this exquisite little town, set on the banks of the Mekong River, will charm even the most seasoned of voyagers.
The Untouched North
Northern Laos is a region that has largely kept the modern world at bay and offers a wealth of authentic travel experiences from trekking through karst mountain scenery to exploring minority villages that have remained little changed for centuries. Add to this the enigmatic Plain of Jars, whose ancient relics remain a mystery to archaeologists to this day.
The Sleepy South
Also visited by relatively few travellers, the south of Laos boasts a variety of attractions from the gorgeous waterways of Si Phan Don (The 4,000 Islands) to the coffee plantations and waterfalls of the lofty Bolaven Plateau. The South is also home to the largest waterfall in Southeast Asia, in addition to Wat Phu, Laos' own Angkorian temple.
